Eco-Friendly Lash Extensions: What Lash Lovers Need To Know

At Avari Beauty, we believe everyone can make a difference in creating a sustainable future. That's why we developed our Sustainable Lash Extensions, made from recycled HDPE fibers and biodegradable cornstarch. Our eco-friendly lash extensions are not only kinder to the earth, but they are also soft, lightweight, and extremely comfortable to wear.

Traditional lash extensions made from polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) have a significant impact on the environment. They are not biodegradable and take hundreds of years to decompose, causing harm to our waterways and wildlife. In contrast, Avari Beauty's Sustainable Lash Extensions are 100% recyclable, degrade quicker in soil and water, and require less energy input during production. With Avari Beauty's Sustainable Lash Extensions, you can make a difference by choosing a product that is recyclable and biodegradable and has a lower environmental impact. Click here to shop now.

Sustainable Lash Extension Benefits

Before we discuss the benefits of sustainable lash extensions, let's first discuss why we knew our clients needed an alternative. The environmental impact of single-use plastics, particularly those made from non-biodegradable materials like polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), cannot be overstated. The improper disposal of microplastics poses a grave threat to our ecosystems, contaminating waterways and the food chain.

For Kari Tribble, founder of Avari Beauty, this issue became personal when she realized the impact of traditional PBT lash extensions. Kari grew concerned about their contribution to environmental pollution as she pondered the fate of the many lashes she used in her salon. Her subsequent research revealed that PBT lashes are frequently disposed of in ways that lead to their accumulation in water, soil, and landfills. Given that these lashes take hundreds of years to break down, their long-lasting impact on the environment is alarming.

Notably, PBT microplastics often end up in aquatic wildlife, posing a risk to the entire food chain, including humans. In response to this challenge, Kari decided to take action and create a sustainable solution—the first eco-friendly HDPE eyelash extensions in the beauty industry and now biodegradable cornstarch eyelash extensions that can be composted. Avari Beauty's sustainable lashes are a passion product developed to help Kari (and her fellow lash lovers!) preserve the planet for future generations.

How To Care For Sustainable Lash Extensions

Never had sustainable lash extensions before? Don't worry! Taking care of your sustainable lashes is a breeze! Just treat them like you would any traditional lash extensions. To ensure your eco-friendly lashes last as long as possible, here are some tips to follow:

  • Avoid using oil-based products near your lashes as they can weaken the bond between the extensions and your natural lashes, causing them to fall off prematurely. Check the ingredient list of any beauty products you use near your eyes to ensure they are oil-free.
  • Cleanse your lashes twice daily to keep them free of oil, dirt, and cosmetics. This helps to prevent weakening of the extension glue bonds and the risk of premature lash fallout. Use a high-quality cleanser like Avari Beauty's All-In-One Bamboo Charcoal Cleanser to gently remove debris and buildup.
  • Brush your lashes regularly using a mascara wand, especially after washing them, to keep them debris-free and in place.
  • Schedule an infill every 2-3 weeks to replace fallen lashes and maintain a full and fluffy lash set. Keep in mind that eyelashes have a natural growth cycle of about three months, so it's crucial to stay on top of your lash maintenance.
