What Is Microchanneling? Benefits, Procedure, and Expectations.

In the pursuit of glowy, healthy skin, you might have come across the term "microchanneling." Sounds cool and futuristic, right? When Avari Beauty founder Kari Tribble first discovered microchanelling, she knew she'd uncovered something very exciting! Whether you want to fade acne scars, improve the appearance of fine lines, or even treat hair loss, microchanneling is a safe and effective treatment that delivers noticeable results. But what is microchanelling, and why is it one of our favorite skincare treatments? In this article, we're discussing the benefits of microchanneling, how it works, and how it could help you level up your skincare game!

What is Microchanneling?

Microchanneling is an innovative, non-invasive procedure designed to achieve maximum results in minimal time. The microchanneling method involves creating thousands of tiny puncture holes, aka microchannels, into the skin to facilitate healing. By stimulating the outermost layers of the skin, microchanneling amplifies your body's natural process of generating the building blocks of healthy skin. This increase in collagen and elastin, combined with the breakdown of old tissue and specially targeted serums, helps to improve skin texture, scarring, stretch marks, and aging skin. The results? Younger-looking, clearer skin with minimal downtime!

What Happens During A Microchanneling Treatment?

If the thought of creating thousands of tiny microchannels in your skin makes you a little nervous, don't worry! Even and uniform microchannels are created via sterile precision micro-needles, with minimal discomfort. In fact, a single treatment can create hundreds of thousands of microchannels. Each micro-channel results in an inflammatory healing response by the body, leading to collagen formation and healthier skin. Over time, with repeated treatments, this healing process can improve skin texture, fade scars and stimulate hair follicles.

What Issues Can Microchanneling Treat?

Microchanneling can address many skin-related complaints, including:

  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • scarring & stretchmarks
  • hyperpigmentation
  • acne
  • skin laxity
  • visible pores
  • alopecia and hairloss

Microchanneling is safe for almost all ages and skin types. However, it's crucial that you only undergo microchanneling treatments from a qualified professional who has been trained in the procedure.

What Is the Difference Between Microchanneling, Microneedling and Dermarolling?

In the beauty world, people often use the terms “microchanneling” and “microneedling” interchangeably, but they are different procedures and shouldn’t be confused.

In both microneedling and microchanelling, micro-injuries are caused to the epidermis to facilitate collagen production and healing; however, the tools used and the recovery process are much different.

In-office microneedling, a skin pen is used, which can be especially useful in treating smaller, harder-to-reach areas, such as around the eyes and nose. In addition, skin pens often have varying needle depths to facilitate custom penetration, depending on your needs. This method of microneedling can achieve fantastic results if completed under the supervision of licensed professionals. It also tends to have a slightly longer recovery time than microchanneling.

At-home microneedling techniques, such as dermarollers are less invasive and generally achieve less noticeable results. Dermarollers are covered in tiny needles and rolled across the skin to create microscopic puncture wounds. Although these needles are typically much shorter and less sharp, this method can be problematic — especially if done at home, as it can be difficult to determine which areas of the skin have already been treated. In addition, improper execution could lead to microtears from skin dragging.

In contrast, a microchanneling device utilizes a linear controlled stamping technique to achieve precise microchannels across the surface of the skin. This ensures that skin “damage” is controlled, sterile and safe, and significantly reduces the chances of creating microtears through skin dragging. Most patients can resume their usual daily activities immediately after microchanelling treatment, so it’s a wonderful option for clients who don’t want to worry about downtime.

What Is ProCell Microchannelling?

The ProCell Microchannelling treatment at Avari Beauty utilizes a patented FDA-approved Stem Cell serum and aftercare to deliver extraordinarily effective and noticeable skincare results. What makes Procell's Delivery Serum so special? The magic is in the growth factors, anti-aging, and anti-inflammatory ingredients. These carefully selected ingredients support cellular renewal to improve skin firmness, elasticity, and tone.

How Long Does It Take For Microchanneling To Work?

Depending on your goals, it's not unusual to see an improvement in skin quality from the very first treatment! However, as neocollagenesis (new collagen production) typically takes a few weeks, you will continue to notice an improvement as your skin heals and regenerates. Developing a strategic microchanneling treatment plan with your esthetician is crucial to ensure you get the best out of your service—this includes aftercare and follow-up appointments!

How Many Microchanneling Treatments Do You Need

Here at Avari Beaty, we curate a personalized treatment plan based on your individual's needs. For optimal results, we typically advise a microchanneling treatment once every four weeks, including recommendations for topical stem cell serums. To address more specific issues such as hair loss, we recommend a minimum of 5 treatments every 7-14 days. Most clients see results after 3-5 sessions, depending on the degree of hair thinning. Results can vary, and you may need additional treatments.
